Fun Facts About Thailand

Thai people value respect not only for the elders but also for everyone. However, getting to know deeper about Thailand culture, did it ever come to your mind how and why they’re doing all those gestures? In terms of greeting as we always see in the Thai series they always bow their heads together with their palms enclosed. Did you know that the head is the most sacred body part in Thailand. So, once you accidentally touch their heads you must apologize immediately.

Furthermore, giving respect in Thailand is also hierarchical, talking about high social status. Did you know that Thai people highly respect Monks and if you try to disrespect or even make fun of Monks try to pray for your life, in the worst-case scenario you might be sentenced or worst banned in Thailand. Another thing about respect  is that pointing at someone isn’t accepted naturally in Thailand, especially to those who are included in the hierarchy, because pointing randomly comes off rude and people will judge you by your sudden behavior. However,  if you are a foreigner Thai people will understand and give you the benefit of the doubt.

Festivals in Thailand

Thailand has a lot of festivities that are worth experiencing. Thailand is famous for its extravagant and dazzling festivals as it is one of the best parts of Thai culture. Moreover, let me share their exhilarating festivals:

At Songkran a Water festival; it symbolizes how the sins you’ve committed over the past year are being cleansed. At Boong Bang Fai a Rocket festival; it was held for rain and celebration of fertility, but it is mainly for the farming community of the Thai people. At Phi Ta Khon a Ghost Festival; this festival happens on the 6th full moon of the lunar calendar as the local people wear ghostly colorful masks. At Chiang Mai a Lantern Festival signifies the warding off of the mishaps in the past year, as it was indeed beautiful to capture such scenery as the sky illuminates those paper lanterns.

Fun fact, did you know that aside from Chinese New Year celebration they also have Thai New Year which is celebrated every 13th – 15th of April.

Lastly, Thailand’s culture shapes the Thai people in every aspect, as they create something that people will immediately know that they’re from Thailand. Their unique culture makes the other people outside the country curious about what is making Thailand well known. Their culture is a flex as it is very centered on what they believed, and the good thing about their culture is that up until now they still celebrate their occasions and give importance to every ceremony they’ll hold in their beloved country.
